Artist and educator, Lee R. Cowan has been teaching at Utah Valley University since 1999 and as adjunct for Brigham Young University and Snow College. In 2002, he opened Utah based, Cowan Gallery, which gave a voice to the conceptual and contemporary artist.
As an artist, he has exhibited nationally and has been the recipient of Best of Show awards, as well as placed and Honorable mentions for his paintings, prints and installations. Lee has guest lectured for UVU, BYU, FATE and has participated on a number of Artist Panels. Lee served as Art Director for the documentary film ”Declaration, The Discovery of the William Stone Engraving”. He has served as a Juror for BYU several times and has curated and co-curated shows for the past 20 years.
Lee received his MFA from Brigham Young University for his thesis on 24 Hour Portraiture of the human experience through the interpretation of color. He received his BFA from Art Center College of Design challenging the theorems of Dr. Max Luscher and the use of color preference for psychological profiling.
Lee has an interest in the divisions of space by the means of proven structures found in plutonic, geometry, and other math theorems. The incorporation of those structures with visual intangibles creates the dialog of which he likes to explore with-in his art.
